stART; STARTiNG & THE STATE OF ARTiSTS COLLABORATiVE ZiNE
IN THE BEGINNING ON 2024 I FELT ABSOLUTELY DEFEATED.
I WAS WORKING AT A BOBATIME PART-TIME, CONSTANTLY TAKING GIG WORK, AND JUGGLING MY PERSONAL PRACTICE WITH MOVING OUT AND PAYING BILLS FOR THE FIRST TIME. I WAS EXHAUSTED AND CONSTANTLY RUNNING BETWEEN TASKS, BUT AT LEAST I KNEW I WAS VERY MUCH NOT ALONE.
SOMEHOW - IT WAS COMFORTING KNOWING EVERYONE ELSE WAS ALSO STRUGGLING, BUT TIRING AND HEARTBREAKING TO BE HAVING THE SAME EXACT CONVERSATION OVER AND OVER WITH SUCH OUTSTANDING CREATIVES.
I GOT TIRED OF TALKING.
I WANTED TO VENT. I HAD A FEELING OTHER PEOPLE COULD ALSO USE THE OPPORTUNITY -
SO I REACHED OUT.
24 ARTISTS TOOK UP MY OFFER, RESPONDING TO THE OPEN-ENDED PROMPT OF "ANYTHING RELATED TO ART PRACTICE, CAREERS, POST-STRIKE, POST-PANDEMIC, HOPES FOR THE FUTURE, VENTING ABOUT THE CURRENT STATE, A REFLECTION OF PAST PRESENT FUTURE, WHATEVER AND HOWEVER YOU CHOOSE TO EXPRESS YOURSELF THROUGH THIS IDEA."
SOME ARE CURRENT STUDENTS.
SOME ARE INDUSTRY VETERANS.
SOME HAVE LARGE SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWINGS.
ALL OF US HAVE BEEF.
